It’s a match made in Summer hit heaven, as local producer Dean White teams up with 19-year-old Cape Town-based singer-songwriter Cailyn Shelby on the upbeat Pop single “The One (For Me)” – out today across all digital platforms.

The track was born when Dean White got inspired to write a funky bass line with pop elements from the '80s. He had spent hours finding the right sound for the song, but says that the process came quite naturally for him. He made sure to have a solid foundation with the bass and drums before creating the rest of the song around that.

Cailyn Shelby says Dean sent her the track and an idea of how he wanted the story line to go when asking her to write for it.

She says the song was surprisingly easy to write, saying, "as soon as I started playing the instrumental track, ideas came flooding through my head, starting with what is now the pre-chorus, and the song just grew from there".

"Essentially the song pictures someone at a club", she says, "and the magical interaction of attraction in such a situation, but I wanted it to be more than that. I wanted to express the anxiety of that first meeting, working up the courage to go talk to the person and how it eventually plays out."

Cailyn recalls the song as being a fun track to write, saying, "I think the track was always going to be written, one way or another, I just don't think it would have been as fun and funky as it now known as".

"The One (For Me)" is out across all major digital platforms.
