Best Mistake

I wrote “Best Mistake” after one of my friends in Australia, Jesse, had sent me a few lines to a poem he had written. At the time, I was starting a relationship that felt like it developed so organically, there was never any pressure or pretending to be something we weren’t.
The poem complemented the situation so well and an hour later I had sent him the full first verse and chorus, the rest of the song then poured out.
I was fortunate enough to have the incredible Daniel Baron work on the production and give the song the life it deserves.

Home
On Monday I wrote this song. On Tuesday I recorded vocals and guitar and sent them off.
On Thursday I got an amazing track sent back to me and recorded more vocals. On Friday we did the final tweaks. And on heritage day, it is yours!
This song really captures the joy and warmth we have in this South Africa. I am so proud of how it came together and hope you will accept it in your homes, lives, parties, and cars with the same warmth.
I was fortunate enough to work with Daniel Baron on this song and have him bring it to life in such a short time. This song would not be what it is and be so special if it were not for his genius. He blew my mind.
So, put your dancing shoes on, grab a pal or two and embrace the past, present and future you.

No Longer Me and You

I wrote this song from the perspective of the other person in the relationship, the one that had checked out long before the relationship ended and who started to show that disconnect through their actions rather than just saying how they felt.

It touches on the struggle of coming to terms with a relationship being over and being wrong, irrespective of the effort being put into it.

At some point, you just need to let go.
To realise that there is no longer a you and them.

Call Me

"Call Me” was written after a string of personal, painfully honest songs. One day, I was sick of being so down and writing about pain and loss, I wanted to write something fun and joking, making fun of myself and a situation, thinking to myself to just be so unserious and see what would come from it.
Immediately after making this decision, the song's first line popped into my head and the rest evolved from there.
40 minutes later I had the full song and a better mood.

I love how tongue-in-cheek the whole song is and how it progresses.
Anyway, the moral of the story is to save everyone the trouble and just call me back ;)

‘My Four Friends’ is a song I wrote around August last year during the Covid-19 lockdown.
I got the idea for the song while sitting and watching the few cars that were back on the roads passing our home and immediately went to my room and started playing it on my keyboard.
Throughout that year, my room is where I spent a lot of my time, writing songs. I don’t enjoy talking to people about my feelings, so a lot of what I am feeling and what I am going through comes out in my songs; therefore, I write really personal songs and my walls hear all my ideas of lyrics and all my frustrations that I’m writing about.
I like the concept of our walls knowing things, and seeing things, and hearing things, and I thought this would be such a cool thing to write about. I also thought that there have been people living in that house before me, who had their own story and perspective on life and the ‘walls’ had got to know them, so they are a lot wiser than me. I find it kind of comforting that they can’t tell anyone.
I think the reason the song came so easily, is because we were stuck, spending so much time in our homes, and we had no one to talk to, so unless you’re talking to the dog - you’re talking to your walls.
